Family care leave can be used for up to 10 days per year if you need to care for family members, including not only children, but also spouses, grandparents, maternal grandparents, parents, spouses, and grandchildren.
What has been operated in the private sector so far also applies to public officials. Expansion of the scope of eligible offenders and the number of days of care leave is possible from October 20, 2020 through the revision of the ‘National Civil Servant Service Regulations’ and ‘Local Civil Servant Service Regulations’.
Article 20, Paragraph 14 of the National Civil Servant Service Regulations
▶ Number of vacation days: Total 10 days per year
▶ Target audience: Children, spouse, parents, spouse’s parents, grandparents, grandchildren (including adult children)
▶ Reason for vacation
① When participating in official events such as daycare centers or schools, or when schools are closed (including online classes due to infectious diseases, etc.)
② When consulting with a teacher
③ When accompanying a minor child to hospital treatment,
④ When care is needed due to a child’s illness or accident
⑤ When family care is needed due to illness, accident, old age, or childcare
In other words, in the case of family care leave, you can use care leave even if your child cannot go to daycare, kindergarten, or school due to discretionary leave or disaster, or if you need to take care of your child because he or she is sick, but does not require hospital treatment.

▶ Salary payment
Up to 10 days of unpaid leave per year is provided. However, for child care, paid leave of up to 3 days is granted as is currently the case. In other words, except for the existing child care leave of 2 days per year (maximum 3 days in case of two or more children or disabled people, etc.), it is operated without pay.
