(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Do-yeon = As overseas direct purchases are expected to increase ahead of Black Friday, the Korea Consumer Agency has created a ‘Credit Card Chargeback Service Use Guide’ to respond to damage from direct purchases.
Credit card chargeback service means cancellation or refund of deposit. This is a service that requests the card company to cancel an already approved transaction in cases such as suspected fraud, non-delivery, suspected counterfeit goods, or non-fulfillment of refund.
According to the Korea Consumer Agency on the 17th, there were 823 consumer consultations related to overseas direct purchases received through the Consumer Agency’s ‘International Trade Consumer Portal’ as of October this year.
Looking at the types, damages due to delays and refusals in cancellation/refund/exchange processing were the most frequent (301 cases, 37%), followed by damage due to loss of contact with the business operator or site closure (114 cases, 14%), and damage related to delivery (103 cases, 14%). 13%) followed.
In addition, 35.0% (288 cases) of all consultations were classified as damages that could be resolved through credit card chargeback services.
The chargeback service can be applied to the credit card company in writing within 120 days from the card payment date.
You must submit materials such as transaction receipts, order details, and emails exchanged with the business to prove your consumer claims.

The Korea Consumer Agency has posted a guide to using the credit card chargeback service on the ‘International Trade Consumer Portal’.
The Consumer Agency said, “The chargeback service can be used not only for damage to items purchased directly from overseas, but also for damage related to hotel and rental car reservations and tax refunds incurred while traveling abroad.”
