Recently, the Android Chrome browser has been updated to version 89. With this update, Chrome apps officially support 64-bit. Chrome’s page loading speed improved by up to 8.5% and scrolling and input latency by 28% on smartphones that support 64-bit environments. 크롬 업데이트

32-bit and 64-bit were the most talked about in the days of Windows XP. At that time, the RAM capacity of the computer was over 4GB, which was a transitional period. Since the 32-bit environment cannot recognize more than 4GB of memory, the 64-bit environment was developed to process more data. JFactory

At that time, the operating system was also divided into 32-bit and 64-bit, and people who developed programs were working hard to cope with both environments. This can still be seen in the fact that Program Files is divided into x86 (32-bit) and regular folders on the C drive of the computer.

As mentioned earlier, a 32-bit environment cannot recognize more than 4 GB of memory. On the other hand, if you look at the specifications of recently released Android smartphones, most of them have more than 4GB of RAM. If an application does not use more than 4GB of RAM, it is not a big problem, but if it has good specifications and an application cannot use it, it is a waste. This update to Chrome 64-bit support paved the way for faster processing by using more memory.

However, there are limitations to using 64-bit Chrome. The Android version installed on the smartphone must be at least 10 and the RAM capacity must be at least 8GB.

It’s easy to check if 64-bit Chrome is properly applied. If you run the Chrome browser app and enter chrome://version in the address bar, you can check detailed information including the currently installed version of the Chrome browser app and the bit environment. Here, (64-bit) is indicated at the end of the Google Chrome item on the first line. If the application conditions are not met, it is indicated as (32-bit). According to a screenshot shared by overseas netizens, the Google Pixel 3a XL smartphone is equipped with Android 11 version, but it has 4GB of RAM, so it can be confirmed that it runs in 32-bit.

Don’t be discouraged if your smartphone doesn’t support the 64-bit Chrome browser. Because there is not much difference in normal use environment. However, if the memory usage increases due to having a lot of browser tabs open or there is a lot of data to process, 64-bit is more efficient.
