KEPCO electricity rate inquiry
Electricity is a valuable resource that is indispensable in our lives. Lights, refrigerators, household appliances, and computers that we use, if it were not for electricity, we would not be able to live as richly as we do now. However, coal fuel is required to produce electricity, and various costs such as nuclear power, hydro power, and wind power are consumed. That’s why we pay our monthly electricity bill through KEPCO. So today, I would like to introduce KEPCO electricity price inquiry.

KEPCO’s website provides a preview of electricity rates or an electricity rate calculator service. If you click the displayed menu, the electric bill calculator service for my house runs in a new window.
KEPCO electricity rate inquiry To use the electricity rate preview service for your home, select your residence among general houses/high voltage apartments and enter your customer number. Here, the high voltage apartment refers to a case where the electricity bill for each household can be checked in the management fee details because the entire apartment is contracted with one customer number without receiving the electricity bill from KEPCO.

The KEPCO electricity rate calculator can calculate electricity rates by contract type. Supported contract types are residential (low pressure), residential (high voltage), general (A), general (B), number of houses per household, education (A), education (B), industrial (A), industrial (A)2 , industrial (B), temporary (B), street lamp (B), late-night power (A), agricultural (A), agricultural (B)
At the bottom, click Go to Electricity Rate Calculator. When the electricity rate calculation screen for each contract type is displayed, 1. Select the contract type and 2. Select residential or non-residential in the condition selection. Afterwards, select one of the extended family rate, the life support rate, and not applicable. Those who fall under the welfare discount rate, select an option, enter the period of use and usage, and click KEPCO electricity rate inquiry calculation.
When I checked the calculated result, it was 330,740 won. Here, the basic rate is 7,300 won, the electricity rate is 280,783 won, the pre-reorganization rate is 286,893 won, the environmental cost is -6110 won, the climate environment fee is 6476 won, the fuel cost adjustment is -3666 won, the value-added tax is 290,893 won *0.1 = 29,089 won, the electric power industry base Fund (rounded down to less than 10 won) 290,893 won * 0.037 = 10,760 won, so the billed amount is electricity rate plan + VAT = Electricity Industry Infrastructure Fund: 290,893 won + 29,089 won + 10,760 won = 330,740 won (rounded down to less than 10 won).
In the case of general residential electricity (low voltage), the basic rate and electricity rate for each capacity are different in summer. (Applied on January 1, 2021)
Residential customers include apartment customers and refer to customers with contract power of 3kW or less. It is also applicable when a customer wishes to apply electricity for housing to a single dormitory or a social welfare facility for group housing, and it also applies to residential officetels.
Electricity rates for other seasons except summer are as follows.
How to save electricity bill
The progressive tax that can be seen in KEPCO’s electricity rate inquiry refers to a setting to apply a higher rate as the amount of electricity used increases. Therefore, it simply means that people who use a lot of electricity are charged a high rate, and people who use less electricity are charged a low rate.
How to save electricity bill
1. How to save air conditioner electricity bill
In summer, air conditioner usage spikes. The air conditioner is a typical device that causes progressive tax. The way to prevent progressive taxation is to maintain the proper indoor temperature of the air conditioner at 25 to 26 degrees. In summer, it is often set to 19 degrees to create cool air as soon as you return after going out. In this case, there is a high chance that you will be hit with a progressive tax rate bomb. If you run the air conditioner rapidly, it will consume more power than you think. In addition, if you use the air conditioner all day, it is said that it is more efficient to run the air conditioner even when you are out. Because power consumption is the highest in the first section where the air conditioner is operated from a standstill, it is helpful not to turn off the air conditioner when going out for a while.
Regular cleaning of the air conditioner filter can also save 3% or more in electricity bills. It was confirmed that the electricity rate in August after cleaning the air conditioner filter was 5% cheaper than the electricity rate in July through the KEPCO electricity rate inquiry last summer.

2. How to save electricity bill for electric rice cooker
Since Koreans consume rice as a staple food, the amount of electricity consumed by the rice cooker cannot be ignored either. The amount of electricity consumed by electronic devices related to eating habits such as electric rice cookers, microwave ovens, electric kettles and air fryers is also a cause of progressive tax. When using an electric rice cooker, it is recommended to make as much rice as possible, pack it for each person and freeze it in the freezer. In addition, if you unplug the outlets of used electronic devices, the leaking standby power disappears, which helps to save electricity bills.
3. Television
The TV you watch every day is always on. However, in the case of a set-top box for cable broadcasting like these days, it is said that if it is turned on, it uses about twice the electricity of the TV standby power. Therefore, it is recommended to turn off the TV and set-top box after use.
4. LED replacement
Incandescent lamps consume much more power and have a shorter lifespan than LED lamps. When it comes time to replace incandescent lamps, replacing them with LED lamps that use less electricity will help reduce power consumption.
5. Energy Progressive
Sometimes, energy is wasted even if the door of the refrigerator is slightly open or the windows or doors do not close well in winter. In the case of an electric heater, the more heat leaks to the outside, the more electric energy is consumed. Making sure the door is completely closed at all times will also help catch energy progression.
6. Refrigerator temperature control
Set the refrigerator to 38 degrees and the freezer to 0-5 degrees. Setting the right temperature in this way keeps your food fresh and your refrigerator doesn’t have to waste unnecessary power to control the temperature.
7. Shorten shower time
If you shorten the shower time to 2 minutes, the amount of electricity used for electric hot water can be reduced by 5 times. When comparing the results of the KEPCO electricity rate inquiry two months ago with the electricity rate inquiry last month, it was possible to reduce electricity consumption just by shortening the shower time.
8. Using inverter products
When using a washing machine or air conditioner, it is helpful to use an inverter product if possible. In general, inverter air conditioners consume about 1.8 times less electricity than older air conditioners, so the power consumption efficiency is better.
9. Using Smart Multi-Tap
The power of some multi-tap is manufactured so that it never turns off. However, in the case of smart multi-tap these days, there is a standby mode that uses trickle power to lower the amount of power. The remote sensor automatically shuts off the current when the device is not in use.
So far, we have looked at the details of KEPCO’s electricity rate inquiry. Electricity is an essential part of our lives, but I think it is also important to save money on electricity bills such as seasonal electricity bills and progressive taxes. In Korea, electricity consumption is high in summer and winter. You can also refer to the electricity bill savings we shared here. In the future, I would like you to use the wisdom of reducing the progressive electricity tax along with the KEPCO rate inquiry service to make the electricity rates cheaper.
