Finally, on March 21, the iPhone Apple Pay service will be available in Korea. In the meantime, iPhone users had to carry a separate wallet because there was no pay function, and there was a lot of inconvenience. For the time being, only Hyundai Card can be used, and transportation cards are not available, and it is regrettable that there are fewer merchants than expected, but it seems to be gradually improved. If you are using an iPhone, it would be nice to use it after registering the card by referring to the information below.
1. Apple Pay
Samsung Pay, which is currently used by many people, supports both the MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) method and the NFC (Near Field Communication) method. Apple Pay uses the NFC function built into the iPhone to make payments. So, Apple Pay can only be used on devices that support NFC.

It can be used where there is a contactless payment symbol (a mark indicating that NFC is available), but in case you are not aware of it, it is recommended that you check whether the terminal is compatible with Apple Pay before using it.
2. Apple Pay Hyundai Card
To use Apple Pay, you need to register your card, but currently only Hyundai Card can be used. It is known that other cards cannot be used because Hyundai Card has an exclusive contract. However, it seems that the use of cards from other card companies that are not yet ready will be possible only after a few months. Among global payment network companies, only Visa, MasterCard, and domestic cards are accepted, and Amex is not accepted. If you have a Hyundai card, you can register and use it right away, and if you do not have a Hyundai card, you should think about issuing a check or credit card first.

4. How to use Apple Pay
If the card is registered in the wallet app, payment can be made using the NFC function without an internet connection. (Available for iPhone 6 or later, all Apple Watch models) Face ID and Touch ID authentication are required in this process.
1) When using Face ID
➀ Double-click the side button
➁ When the default card appears, enter Face ID or password to authenticate
➂ Hold the top of the iPhone against the card reader until Done and a check mark appear on the screen
2) When using Touch ID
➀ Place your finger on Touch ID to authenticate
➁ Hold the top of the iPhone against the card reader until Done and a check mark appear on the screen.
5. Where to use Apple Pay
Many people would have expected to use Apple Pay at Starbucks or E-Mart Shinsegae affiliated stores, but currently, Apple Pay is not available at Shinsegae affiliated stores, and it seems that there are no plans in the future at this time. Since the NFC terminal penetration rate is about 10% of the total, and the terminal itself is quite expensive, it is highly likely that self-employed stores or small stores will find it difficult to use it right away. In addition, large-scale affiliates that can be used immediately are as follows, so please refer to them.

So far, we have learned about the upcoming Apple Pay. In the meantime, the release of Apple Pay has been delayed due to security and stability reasons, but I quickly wrote how to use it in anticipation that I could finally try it. The card registration method was also easier than I thought, so I was able to register the card right away. You won’t be able to distribute anything on the first drink, but I hope that as the number of Apple Pay users increases and demand increases, the number of credit card companies that can be used will increase, and the number of places where NFC can be used will also increase.
