In line with the rapid increase in the number of national pension recipients and the improvement in their expectations, the National Pension Service is conducting a pilot project to issue a fragile paper-type certificate of receipt as a national pension card.
The recipients of the old age, disability, and survivors’ pension can apply for it at the branch office of the National Pension Service or the website of the National Pension Service if they wish. In addition, existing recipients can apply at Shinhan Bank branches.
National pension cards are issued in three categories: regular cards, check cards, and credit cards, and the benefits vary slightly depending on the type of card. In the case of a general card, it is a simple plastic card that functions as a national pension card and can be issued to all pensioners. In addition, credit cards are issued only to recipients with a monthly pension of 100,000 won or more, and various additional services are provided.
An official from the corporation said, “Issuance of certificates in the form of cards rather than paper certificates, and various additional services necessary for old age such as health, finance, and travel can be provided, social contribution activities using the accumulated funds from issuance of cards, and issuance of paper-type certificates of supply in the future. If this is omitted, it is expected that about 250,000 sheets of paper can be reduced annually.”
