Kia EV5 concept revealed
The Kia EV5 concept is an electric SUV targeting the Chinese market, and it is scheduled to release a mass-produced car this year. This vehicle has a strong and bold style that reflects ‘Bold for Nature’, one of Kia’s design philosophies ‘Opposite United’. In addition, a modern and original interior space with the theme of coexistence of nature and people was implemented.
Kia unveiled the world’s first electric SUV, the Kia EV5, which will be a new game changer in the Chinese market. This vehicle is a semi-mid-sized electrified SUV developed based on Kia’s dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP, and plans to release a mass-produced vehicle in China this year.
The concept EV5 applies ‘Bold for Nature’, one of the five directions of Kia’s design philosophy ‘Opposites United’ (creative convergence of opposite concepts), It has a bold appearance. Star map signature lamp design inspired by constellations, the front part with a new digital tiger face emphasizing clean and robustness, the dynamic box-shaped silhouette, the side part with a solid image of the fender and the technically designed wheel arch in harmony, and the D-pillar. is boldly moved to the rear to create a boxy silhouette, and it is composed of a star map rear lamp and a rear part with a wide tailgate design applied.
The interior space embodies a modern yet original atmosphere based on the theme of coexistence between nature and people. The crash pad uses conflicting materials that symbolize the contrast between nature and people, and a panoramic display with three screens is applied so that passengers can enjoy various contents. In addition, the seats in the first row and the console can be connected like a bench seat, making it possible to utilize various spaces, and the sliding console of the docking concept, which can be used by both first and second row passengers, has been applied to increase convenience. A trunk space with a swivel seat that can be turned and a table and deck provides a new vehicle experience.
The exterior has a star map signature lamp inspired by constellations and a digital tiger face, creating a clean and confident image. The dynamic box-shaped silhouette, solid fenders and technical wheel arches harmonize, giving a strong and bold impression. The rear part boldly moves the D-pillar to the rear to secure a wide space, and the star map rear lamp and wide tailgate design enhance the completeness.
The concept EV5 also uses a lot of eco-friendly materials. A total of 10 eco-friendly materials such as bio-polyurethane extracted from seaweed and recycled plastic materials were applied, and a leather-free design that does not use animal leather was reflected.
Along with the Kia EV5, EV6 GT and EV9 videos were also shown, revealing its intention to enter the Chinese electric vehicle market in earnest.
