According to the National Health Insurance Act, national health insurance support expired at the end of last year, and the law was revised in June this year to extend it for 5 years, but there has been no government support provided to date.
Accordingly, the Corporation has continued to request budget execution from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.
According to the corporation, according to the execution plan, government subsidies are generally distributed on the 10th of each month for the general account (national treasury) and on the 28th of the last month of each quarter for the health promotion fund.
Until 2019, before COVID-19, 60-70% of the general accounting was executed in the first half of the year, but due to COVID-19, some amounts were granted and full year-end payments were made starting in 2020.
As government subsidies are executed in batches at the end of each year, it is expected that active investment in mid- to long-term products will not be possible or that returns will decrease due to conversion of mid- to long-term products to short-term products.
In addition, it is pointed out that uncertainty in the corporation’s financial operation is increasing due to unstable government support.
Rep. Nam pointed out, “The government initially did not execute this year’s budget due to a lack of legal basis, but currently, government subsidies are being provided for health insurance that is stably operated due to a funding crunch such as a lack of tax revenue.”
